2009: Nationally Ranked #2 IRMO taking on #1 Northwestern High School in front of 8,000 plus Fans in a bid for the South Carolina AAAA State Championship. The two programs met again in 2010 in front of nearly as many fans where Irmo finished as State Finalist.

Head Coach Phil Savitz has over the course of 31 years amassed a string of records few will ever reach. On his watch, he and his dedicated coaching assistants and former players have developed All-Americans and great Americans.
For Irmo Soccer, the phrase 'Tradition of Excellence' applies to the classroom and the soccer program. Irmo Soccer teams are routinely awarded National Academic Excellence and Athletic Achievement Honors.
The 2012 season marks Coach Phil Savitz's 32nd year as the head coach of the Yellow Jackets. At the beginning of the 2011 season Coach Savitz held a career record of 570 wins with 70 losses and 5 ties. Those 570 wins represent the most in the history of South Carolina Boys Soccer.
Under his direction, Irmo has appeared in the 4-A State Finals 21 times and have come away with the championship 13 times. Since 1987, Irmo has won an impressive 12 state titles and has been runner-up 7 times. The Yellow Jackets have won a total of 15 state AAAA Titles, with the first one dating back to 1978 under the guidance of Coach Nicky Joseph.
Coach Savitz and his staff have been responsible for developing hundreds of outstanding players and 14 times a Yellow Jacket has been recognized as the State Player of the Year.
Additionally, many Irmo graduates have gone on to successful college careers throughout the country and into the professional ranks.
Coach Savitz has been honored as Coach of the Year at the region, state, regional, and national levels on numerous occasions and in 2012 he was inducted into the South Carolina Coaches Association “Hall of Fame”. USA Today and NSCAA have ranked the Yellow Jackets nationally many times and three times, including last season, they have finished the season ranked in the top five nationally!
Irmo has also received the NSCAA Team Academic award for outstanding achievement in the classroom each of the last eight years in a row. This award is based on the overall team grade point average. Irmo returns 17 players from last year’s team that went 25-2 overall and was undefeated during the regular season.
The 2010 team also went on to become Lake Murray Challenge Champions, district 5 Superintendent’s Cup Champions, Undefeated Region V Champions and AAAA Lower State Champion.
The atmosphere required to consistently achieve success starts every Fall with pre-season training and carries through until playoffs begin in the middle of April. Irmo Soccer players know their responsibilities within the program. They know the history and they know the expectation that comes with being a part of such a program. The Irmo Soccer Tradition is always in the hands of the players to shape for the next group to follow.
